The working end of a Martens Spike Tooth harrow is the tooth. Teeth are
forge hardened for long life and are diamond shaped so they cut through
clods, manure, grasses. This cutting action helps break up the material into
finer pieces so that it can be spread evenly across the ground. This is
important when trying to: 1. Make soil fine for planting or for arena floors, 2.
Spreading manure so that it acts as a fertilizer instead of covering the
ground and keeping grasses from gowing, 3. The narrow point of the tooth
"cuts through", rather than "pulls out" the desirable grasses and plants.
The Martens teeth are hardened on the wear point, but are softer metal
near the threaded end so if you strike a rock, the tooth will resist breakage.
