No-Till
Residue
Control!
Here’s how you can solve your planting problems with a Martens Harrow!
*Firm the seedbed – Most seedbeds are too loose and fluffy. Research shows that by
firming the seedbed, planting depth can be better controlled resulting in huge increases
(up to 54%) in germination rates. A firm seedbed also gives better seed/soil contact for
proper germination.
*Level the soil – Besides eliminating those troublesome ridges left by some tillage
tools, leveling the soil also results in consistent planting depth across the width of the
drill/planter.
*Spread residue – Residue management is important in reduced tillage or clean crop
farming. The Martens Flex Harrow handles large amounts of residue while spreading it
to a manageable level to allow tillage or planting tools to do their job without the
plugging associated with heavy residue. A MUST-HAVE TOOL FOR NO-TILL RESIDUE
CONTROL!
*Break up residue – A Martens harrow, pulled 7-10 mph on a hot, dry day will shatter
residue, turning it into mulch.
*Conserve moisture – Harrowing behind a primary tillage tool seals the open soil and
lowers the evaporation rate of moisture in the freshly broken soil. Harrowing a crust
breaks the capillary action that releases the moisture out of the soil.
*Sprout volunteer and cheat – Dry years delay sprouting of volunteer. By stirring the
soil with a Martens harrow, the dormant seed contacts the moist soil and sprouts prior
to planting season so it can be controlled before planting.
*Incorporate herbicides – Preplant herbicides can be incorporated as deeply or
shallow as desired. With the 12 or 16 bar flex harrow, you can drop bars in each
section for lighter 8 bar incorporation.
*Cover broadcast seed – Cattlemen desiring wheat pasture or cover crops can
inexpensively plant by spreading seed with a fertilizer spreader, the covering it with the
Martens harrow.
*Pull it behind your primary implement – Seal the soil, save trips & fuel, reduce
compaction, retain moisture, make your final seedbed in one pass.
*Decrease Chemical Useage – Harrowing pulls out small weeds and volunteer,
uncovers overwintering insects to expose them to the elements for fewer insect
problems, and firms the soil to speed germination of weed and volunteer seed so they
can be destroyed prior to planting.
*Alfalfa – Work the ground before spring to control gopher mounds and pull out small
weeds. Aerates the soil for root/oxygen exchange. Levels the ground and spreads old
residue. Makes a perfect alfalfa seedbed.
*Grassland –Grooms the plants, knocks down gopher mounds, pulls out small weeds.
Easy to unfold - One hydraulic valve. Swing
wings back, lower harrows to touch the
ground, drive forward as you lay the
harrows to the ground.
Even Easier to fold - Push the hydraulic
control and the unit folds to road position.
Only one hydraulic valve required!
No getting off the tractor!
